About Me

I am an Orthodox priest in Decatur, IL. I started this blog because of a challenge by the Preachers Institute. I firmly believe that everything anyone wants to know about Orthodox Christianity is in our services. We too often neglect our services outside divine liturgy. I hope to shine some light upon the beauty of what our services have to offer through my musings. Hopefully someone, somewhere will make the effort to participate in these services to see for themselves the beauty of Orthodox Christianity.

  1. Dear Father David: Your description of the purpose for your blog closely matches mine. I also believe that as a people we are liturgically (and scripturally) illiterate, and that, as you say “everything anyone wants to know about Orthodox Christianity is in our services”.

I have written dozens and maybe more even hundreds of posts about the services. When I look around the web, and see huge churches with 10 meetings a week, and no Vespers on Sat, and a 1 hour matins (if at all) on Sunday (how does one pray matins in 1 hour without decimating its theological and pedagogical content, and its beauty and rhythm?), I have sometimes felt very alone in my views. I am so glad to see that we are kindred spirits. I will try to keep up on your posts.
